Tagxedo

If you have ever used http://www.wordle.net/ , you will love Tagxedo!

It takes any text you copy and paste, or some websites can be automatically loaded, and turns it into a shape that will capture your audience. The differences between wordle and tagxedo are:
  1. Wordle places the words randomly with limited choices, Tagxedo gives a variety of shape options, including your own image that you can upload.
  2. Tagxedo allows you to save to your computer or share through social networking sites.
  3. If you want to edit your text it is easy to return in Tagxedo.
  4. You can also order items with your design on Tagxedo.
  5. Both are easy to use and student friendly!

Prezi

http://prezi.com

According to Wiki, "Prezi is a web-based presentation application and storytelling tool that uses a single canvas instead of traditional slides. Text, images, videos and other presentation objects are placed on the infinite canvas and grouped together in frames."

It is a cooler version of the powerpoint and I feel it will engage students since the "New is Always Better" rule seems to apply to hold the attention of our youth.

The nice thing for teachers is it is relatively easy to use and easy to fix mistakes. It also gives you a brief tutorial to help ease your mind.

Take a look at my Prezi below and give it a try on your own. You will be amazed with what you can do!

Cheers!

Another free website is www.classjump.com. I use it for parent communication as well as uploading homework assignments, yearly calendar updates, videos and more.

Evaluating the Usefulness of Websites

“Golden Rules” when looking for an efficient website:
1 - The website must have images that are easy to follow.
2-  The instructions must be short and sweet.
3 – It must be easy to find (not looking on page 20 of the Google list).
4 – Usually, do not use the sponsored websites at the top (too much marketing).
5- The information must be where I click (if it keeps re-routing me to other websites, it’s not worth the time).
